5. What safety standards do your products meet?
| Product | Applicable Standards |
|---|---|
| Clothing Storage Cabinets (≥27") | 16 CFR Part 1261, ASTM F2057-23, ASTM F3096 (anti-tip) |
| Toy Cabinets (if intended for children) | ASTM stability, CPSIA (lead/phthalates) |
| Picture Book Shelves | ASTM stability, CPSIA (lead/phthalates), 16 CFR Part 1500 |
| All Products | CPSIA (lead ≤100 ppm, phthalates ≤0.1%), 16 CFR Part 1303, California Prop 65 |
6. What is 16 CFR 1261 / ASTM F2057-23?
This is the mandatory CPSC safety standard for clothing storage units (CSUs) to prevent child tip-over injuries and deaths. It applies to units ≥27 inches tall, ≥57 lbs, and includes:
-
Stability testing: Simulated loads (8.5 lbs/ft³ for drawers, 60 lbs horizontal pull), carpet simulation, multiple drawer openings
-
Anti-tip devices: Must include compliant device meeting ASTM F3096 (tested to 60 lbs static load) with installation instructions
-
Warning labels: Permanent warning about tip-over hazard with installation guidance
-
CPC certification: For children's CSUs, testing at CPSC-accepted third-party laboratory
7. What is ASTM F3096?
This is the performance specification for tip-over restraints required by ASTM F2057-23. The anti-tip device must withstand a 60 lb static load (increased from 50 lbs to simulate 95th percentile child weight up to 72 months) applied gradually over 2-15 seconds and maintained for 30 seconds.
8. What is a Children's Product Certificate (CPC)?
For cabinets intended for children 12 and under, we provide a Children's Product Certificate (CPC) based on third-party testing at a CPSC-accepted laboratory.
9. Do your products have tracking labels?
Yes. Per 16 CFR Part 1130 (Durable Infant or Toddler Products), applicable products include permanent tracking labels with manufacturer name, production date, batch number, and country of origin. Additionally, durable infant/toddler products must include postage-paid product registration cards.
10. What are the lead and phthalate limits?
-
Lead in surface coating: ≤90 ppm (16 CFR 1303)
-
Lead in substrate (accessible parts): ≤100 ppm
11. Do your products have anti-tip devices?
Yes. All clothing storage cabinets over 27 inches tall include anti-tip devices meeting ASTM F3096 (60 lb static load). The device must be anchored to the wall with clear installation instructions and warning labels. Manufacturers must indicate on the furniture where to attach the device.
12. What are the formaldehyde limits for composite wood?
If any product contains composite wood (MDF, particleboard, plywood), it complies with CARB ATCM Phase 2 (≤0.05 ppm formaldehyde) per 40 CFR 770.
13. Do your products have warning labels?
Yes. For clothing storage units, permanent warning labels include:
-
WARNING: This product can tip over. Secure to wall to prevent injury.
-
Installation instructions for anti-tip device
14. Do your cabinets have small parts?
If any product contains small parts (fits within 1.25-inch cylinder), it is age-graded 3+ and includes required choking hazard warning per 16 CFR § 1500.19(b).
